Looking for a way to celebrate Valentine’s Day without the fuss of going out? Plan a date night in with the help of Old Flame and our local sweets shop, The Nutty Chocolatier!
You may not think chocolate and beer would make a good couple, but with this guide you can play matchmaker! Create a romantic evening by picking up these chocolate and beer pairings that seem to be soul mates from Old Flame Brewing Company and The Nutty Chocolatier.
Blonde Helles Lager with Cinnamon Heart Truffle
The heat from the cinnamon heart truffle is very bold, but this refreshing lager washes away any overpowering heat leaving flavours of rich milk chocolate and a warming cinnamon spice.
Raven Black Lager with Dark Chocolate Cappuccino Truffle
By itself, the chocolate has a cappuccino flavour that manifests very late, but when paired with the beer it enhances the espresso flavours. The pairing creates what tastes like a perfectly balanced and creamy cappuccino. Be sure to pick up the dark chocolate truffle, as the dark cocoa complements the roasted flavours of the beer.
Red Vienna Lager with Cupid Chocolate Caramel
On its own, this runny caramel chocolate is very sweet. But when enjoyed with our Red Lager, it cuts the sweetness and brings forward the deeper toasted malt flavours.
Brunette Munich Dunkel Lager with Hazelnut Bud Truffle
This Hazelnut Bud is a very soft and subtlety flavoured chocolate. This makes it perfect to pair with our smooth Brunette Lager as the chocolate does not overpower the beer. The hazelnut filling highlights the nuttiness usually found in Brunette and makes the darker malt characteristics more prominent.
Chocolate Orange Stout with Chocolate Covered Orange Peel
While this may seem like an obvious pairing, the dance of flavours from these two paired together creates a very interesting experience. At first, the stout has notes of juicy orange, which then fade to an intense dark chocolate. The chocolate covered orange peel acts as the perfect contrast; at first are flavours of rich dark chocolate, which are then overtaken by the tangy orange. When paired together, the beer and the chocolate covered orange peel play off each other, dancing with interchanging flavours of dark chocolate and bright, juicy orange.
Bonus Round: Town Brewery x Old Flame Brewery collaboration
Lucky in Love Raspberry Sour with Chocolate Raspberry Truffle
Please note that this beer is only available at Town Brewery in Whitby! It requires a bit of a road trip to pick up this Valentine’s Day collaboration between Old Flame and Town Brewery.
Lucky in Love is light, refreshing and has the perfect sour kick. It enhances the raspberry flavour of the chocolate, making it taste not too heavy. The pink colour of the beer is also an awesome pairing with the adorable piped flower on top.
The paring is reminiscent of a chocolate covered sour patch kid!
